Talk to 12: MRSA
Today's Talk to 12 is all about the staph infection story and cases of MRSA popping up in local schools.
It sounds like a little hand soap in the bathrooms would go a long way. Shirley says:
"I work at Barton Chapel Elementary School and we do not have soap, hot water, or paper towels in the children bathrooms. Now this is sad..."
A viewer in Hephzibah writes:
"There is always soap in the school. Many times it is wasted because the kids intentionally misuse it."
Maybe that's why schools started trading in the bathroom soap for hand sanitizer in the classrooms.
And let's not forget the buses. Melissa writes:
"Your team has been covering the MRSA news well in our area, but there is a concern of mine that has not been mentioned.
"The school buses.
"Shouldn't they be sterilized also? Keep up the great work!"
Here's one from a bus driver in Columbia County:
"I drive for one of the schools with infections reported. I have heard nothing about sanitizing my bus. The CCBOE has sent nothing to the drivers.
"I have picked up some Lysol and spray twice a day. But to tell the truth I don't know if this is enough. Does Lysol kill the germ?
"There are no set standards for me to go by."
I checked with experts at MCG who tell me using a sanitizing spray either when the children get off the bus or before they get on in the morning should work.
