Get the Test
I just lost two important people to the same kind of cancer, on the same day. My sister Mary Anne… and my friend, community leader and Augusta State University professor Joe Greene. They both died on Monday, November 5th of colon cancer.
ASU President Dr. Bill Bloodworth described reading Joe Green's book…"From Cottonfields to Boardrooms" where you can learn about his journey from humble beginnings in Emanuel County, the obstacles he overcame in a society segregated by race and economics, and his courageous battles to become a three-time survivor of cancer in a family ravaged by the illness.
As for Mary Anne, she was my older sister, only 56 years old. I can remember many mornings before school, she would catch me looking in the big mirror in the hallway…--- look at me and say… "you're not wearing that."
She taught me how to dress and she taught me that the best music is sometimes found deep into the album… the stuff they don't play on the radio. I explained this to a friend at work who summed it up by saying-"She taught you to be cool". Well- at least she tried.
My point here is to remind you that this is not acceptable. Colon cancer is curable--- if you catch it early. The test is simple- ask your doctor about it.
Do it for Mary Anne and do it for Joe.
