Augusta Commission Election

The Augusta Commission election is just around the corner on Tuesday, November 6th. News 12 was first to introduce you to all 17 of the candidates in our Changing Faces of the Augusta Commission segment. You can take a look at our profiles of candidates in District 2, 4, 6, and 10. (Jimmy Smith is running unopposed in District 8.)

One viewer writes, "It doesn't matter really who will get the position because all they will do is fight and argue." It just shows voters seem to be losing faith in the current commissioners, but change is in the forecast. At least two new faces can be expected. Commissioner Marion Williams in District 2 and Commissioner Andy Cheek in District 6 are both making their exit. Alvin Mason is back to challenge Bernard Harper in District 4. He lost by only 92 votes in the last election. Newcomer Tanya Barnhill is also making her voice heard. Things could get interesting.

It is smooth sailing in District 8. Commission Jimmy Smith is running unopposed in that district. In District 10, carpenter John Butler is calling for an "extreme makeover". But incumbent Don Grantham says he is not worried...he says his base is solid.

But that doesn't count if people don't get out to vote. Kiera Randall says, "I've only voted one time for the President so I haven't really voted any since then, so I don't know who to vote for."

For one last look at the candidates, you can join me Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Bible Deliverance Temple at 1 p.m. I will be moderating the final candidates forum before Election Day.

Jamie Love says she is excited about voting on Tuesday. "I'm happy that my opinion is going to count in something in this town."
