Talk to 12: More to the Story, Abandoned Property, and Closed Captioning
In today's Talk to 12, reaction to a story we've been following about a teenager facing charges for throwing a pipe at his father's truck, hitting Tony Powell, Sr. in the head.
Our viewers told us right away there was more to the story--that the man's two sons were actually trying to keep him from driving away drunk. One email stated:
"The boys were scared for their father, they are 15 and 16 they just didn't want him driving and they did the first thing that came to mind... even though it was the worst thing that could have happened."
Ken had a comment about the city budget--specifically, a plan to use taxpayer money to tear down abandoned houses. He says, charge the property owner to do it; add it to their taxes if you have to.
"This would be a 'wash' in the budget and the citizrens would not be stuck with the cost of cleaning up abandoned property. If the owner dosen"t pay then take the property to the court house for tax sale."
Not a bad idea, Ken, but in many of these cases, the absentee landlord is not always easy to track down.
And finally, one email wants to know what's going on with the closed captioning.
"What kind of quality control do you have on your Closed Caption feature on the 11 o'clock News broadcast?. It is nothing but gibberesh and extremely difficult to watch...so much so that I have to watch the news on another channel that has no problems with its closed caption feature. Its been going on for months... and I am finally getting around to complaining about it. Please fix it. Thank you."
Our chief engineer says he has received other complaints like this, but it appears to be only on satellite services like Direct TV and the Dish Network. He says if you are having problems, you may want to check with your provider, but we do want you to know that we're looking into it.
